About Us

Led by high school senior Rachel Brooks, these students are the faces behind Securing Safe Food, an allergy awareness initiative and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing accessibility to allergy-friendly foods outside the home. In early 2020, Rachel decided to act on her vision of creating a more sustainable model to improve the lack of food allergy awareness in foodservice venues, from restaurants to food pantries. Since its inception, Securing Safe Food strives to serve the food-allergic community both safely and sufficiently. Scroll down to learn more about each of our members! 

Rachel Brooks

Rachel Brooks, our founder, is a high school senior from Trumbull, CT. She is allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, and tree nuts. In addition to food allergy advocacy, she edits for an international literary magazine, writes poetry, and is passionate about rare disease research. 

Sydney Hankin

Sydney Hankin is a sophomore in high school in New York, NY. She is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, raw egg, and sesame seeds. In her free time, she likes to practice playing the piano and fiddle, learn new languages, and bake allergy-friendly bread.

Jacqueline See-Tho

Jacqueline See-Tho is a 15-year-old high school sophomore from Palo Alto, CA. She has lived with food allergies of
eggs, milk, tree nuts, and peanuts for her entire life. Among other things, she loves to cook, travel, dance, sing, read, and write.

Gabriella DiGiovanni

Gabriella DiGiovanni is from Wayne, NJ and is a high
school sophomore. She is allergic to some tree nuts, peanuts, and some raw fruits/vegetables,
like potatoes and carrots. She enjoys playing soccer, listening to music, and baking.

Sara Hangtan

Sara Hantgan is a senior in high school from Westchester, NY. She is allergic to dairy, sesame, and tree nuts, along with avocado, banana, mustard, and mango. She is also a competitive cheerleader! She loves to bullet journal in her spare time.

Lizzy Anderlik

Lizzy Anderlik is a high school junior from Chicago, IL. She is allergic to
tree nuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds.  When she's not helping out with this nonprofit, she enjoys baking, playing the ukulele, and tumbling. 

Danielle Huli

Danielle Huli lives in Delmar, NY and is 17 years old. She is only allergic to peanuts...
but anyone with food allergies knows that's hard enough! When she gets a moment, Danielle loves to play tennis, read books, listen to music, and play the piano. 

Lila Hwang

Lila Hwang is a freshman in high school from Rochester,
NY. She is allergic to dairy, and loves being able to help others with food allergies through Securing Safe Food! In her free time, she dances, plays with her puppies, and hangs out with friends.
